So everything is proceeding as normally as it should be. I take my usual blood samples from patients who had been infected with the disease, use it to infect the chimps that we are using for our studies, and test our drugs on said chimps, examining the results later on. I was going through the process of administering the drugs to the chimps when all of a sudden my partner motioned to garner my attention. He was pointing at my left glove and I realized that it was covered in blood. My mind suddenly went into complete panic mode as I rushed to the emergency wash station, got myself and my suit chemically cleansed, and then proceeded to the nearest sink to test my gloves for holes. The topmost glove had a hole in it but relief suddenly swayed over me as I filled my second glove with water and there appeared to be no holes.
A feeling of numbness overwhelmed me during all the after procedures of recording and reporting on the situations, as well as going through precautionary tests to confirm my safety. Such a situation was a simple reminder of how close we are in our encountering of such a dangerous organism. Of how little separation there is between us at such close quarters, and the risks that we are undertaking to find a cure for this disease.
