The highest American legal authority guiding the processes of isolation and quarantine, also known as the federal government of the United States of America, has always sworn to do it's best to prevent exposure to people who have or may have a contagious disease. The "police power" functions of isolation and quarantine are drawn from the right of the state to take action for the benefit of society as a whole. Efforts to guide the learning processes of quarantine and isolation for healthcare workers were ramped up after the several warnings issued through statements by the World Health Organization for readiness and preparedness . This was excruciatingly necessary and crucial for when it would be time to get down to business. It wasn't a question of whether the virus was going to come. It was a question of time. How much time did we have? What was that magical count-down number that we were in dire of knowing oh so badly? How bad would it hit us?
The answer is that it was much sooner then we had expected. Efforts increased to detain and medically examine persons traveling to the United States who were expected of carrying the notorious "Chimera virus". Absolutely no one was given a free pass. All persons traveling that arrived at U.S. land border crossings and passengers and crew arriving at U.S. ports of entry were monitored for signs or symptoms of the communicable disease. Whenever the CDC was given notice about a sick passenger, crew member, or flight attendant by the pilot of a plane or captain of a ship, the CDC detained and investigated whether the cause of the illness was in fact the Chimera virus.
The president of the United States issued a statement during his address stressing how the state governments also played an incredibly important role in protecting the safety, health, and welfare of it's people. He also emphasized how absolutely fundamental it was for the federal government to accept state and local assistance in facing this new threat by helping to enforce federal quarantine measures. Also, he included, the federal government's role in assisting state and local authorities in preventing the spread of the virus. In addition, he also made the point that this was the first time that the federal government of the United States of America had to enforce large-scale isolation and quarantine laws since the influenza "Spanish Flu" epidemic in 1918-1919. In our recent history, he said , "Only a few public health events have prompted federal quarantine or isolation orders, but we must now prepare for what may be the most threatening and dangerous of them all ". He ended the address with what seemed to be a ray of hope and silver lining for all of us. Little did he know that he was soon to be one of the very first infected. The capabilities of the American healthcare system were heavily doubted as the unprecedented spread of the virus continued and took lives everywhere it went, and many ended up deciding to flee the country. But, to no avail, there was little-to-no escape from the savagery of this disease. Widespread alarm, distress, and utter shock led to great chaos on a national level. There was no sense of order and I began to think that this was the end. The fact that I am still alive does much more than surprise me every time I think about what the chances of survival were at the time. God bless all those who were robbed of the gift of life. May they rest in peace forever.
