On December 31st, 2022, a deadly virus burned through our civilization, pushing mankind nearly to the edge of extinction. Several have dedicated their lives to the discovery of a cure and the restoration of humanity. Many have sacrificed the rest of their lives towards reaching this mighty end, but alas, we haven’t even come close to alleviating the lives of those today who are enduring the feverish pains of this viral monstrosity. It was thought that we had, at last, met with an enemy that might just wipe all of us out for good. Because of the work of a group of a quite exceptional bunch of few men who I like to describe as being some of our greatest modern day heroes, all hope was not lost. These men strived and fought through blood, sweat, and tears to learn as soon as possible about the signs and symptoms of the disease, methods of transmission, risk of exposure, how to establish prevention methods, the outbreak chronology, and how soon one can be diagnosed, as well as working to update guidance for managing or preparing for the virus in uninfected regions. This was the most notable and worthy progress in confronting this threat...from the days when it was possible for the CDC and partners to take precautions to prevent the spread just within the United States. That is when we had more conviction in our abilities. Just because we had survived before and just because we were more technologically advanced than generations prior didn’t mean that we were immune to what the future held…It was our hubris that failed us. Our downfall was our growing ego.
An international state of public health emergency was announced by the World Health Organization on January 5th, 2016, but before anyone knew it, the situation was far out of our hands, and great worldwide panic ensued in the following weeks. With the unfathomably incredible blinding speed at which we have observed the spread of this unbelievably resistant mutant super-virus , several have deemed this pathogen to be the fall of mankind, with worries that this was our bane: what would lead our human race to eventual extinction. Characterized by a debilitatingly high disease mortality rate, less than one-tenth of what was once the world’s population remains alive on this Earth today in militarized colonies that have been strategically built to save the remaining few from the outside world. I write this in hopes of keeping a record of what soon may be the greatest comeback that mankind has ever known.
I have gathered as much information as possible, given the current circumstances, from thousands of clinical trials conducted over the years, and will compile all of my research into a scientific paper that will be released to the world’s public at my consent, and my consent only.
I, Dr. Khirie, along with my colleague Dr. Benantar, being experts on the subject of infections diseases and being that this is what we have committed most of our time alive to working on, have made certain that we were from among the first of whom made sure that a case could be made for the importance of research, and like none other, I believe that this catastrophe will deservedly be prioritized above all other historical accounts of any sort of illness that has ravaged through our numbers on such a large scale in future generations to come. With such a laborious undertaking, studies began within two months of the first ever reported case of the virus. I watched with a close eye and wrote as much as I could almost every single day that passed...
The world of medicine has seen its fair share of miracle cures, from the polio vaccine to the first successful heart transplant surgery. But, if everything goes according to plan, all past accomplishments may pale in comparison to what we may be on the verge of discovering.
Long lines of people waiting for food during the outbreak: the kind of thing you'd only expect to see in movies.
